My Weight Loss Story

It feels awesome that I'm finally able to fit into my old jeans again. The jeans that were hung inside the cupboard for a decade now, or those already inside the box, ready to be delivered to potential new owners. How cool is that huh?

I'm 5'4'' and my current weight is 63kg. I've lost 22kg from my pre maternity weight and it's such a huge achievement.

Previously, I was 76 kg with no bun in the oven and I look like a giant in a mirror, and in real life. I can't fit into old clothes, it felt hard to move around with extra pounds all around my body and most importantly, I lost my self confidence.

When I was pregnant with Mikael, I was 85 kg and that's the greatest achievement so far!  2 months after delivery, I lost 12 kg and that made me 73 kg. That was when I stopped weighing myself.

Then recently, after 8 months being away from weighing scale, my dad told me I look thin and asked if I was on a diet. Then few other mates in the office said the same thing too. They asked what did I do to lose weight. I was like "Whaaattt?!"

So I jumped on to the weighing scale, and I was shocked that I weigh 63 kg. I just lost 10 kg. How did it happen? Puzzled, but I can't deny I'm so happy about it ;)

It took me some times to figured out what actually happened. I started to jot down my daily routine, food intake then I come out with these:

BREASTFEEDING

Believe it or not, this is the main factor that contributed to my weight loss.

“Our bodies burn almost 20 calories to make just an ounce of breast milk. If your baby eats 19-30 ounces a day, that's anywhere between 380-600 calories burned,”

LESS SUGAR INTAKE

I love desserts. I can't resist chocolate, cookies, cake and ice cream. They are my life! But when I was pregnant with Mikael, I had GDM or in other words, diabetes. So I had to control my meal intake and ditch sugar to ensure both myself and Mikael are safe.

Since then, I'm used to unsweetened foods and drinks. I can now enjoy coffee without sugar and I can live without chocolate, cake and ice cream! It accidentally became a habit.


DRINK A LOT OF PLAIN WATER

Plain truth. Water makes you feel full, helps to digest and flush out toxin.

TAKE BREAKFAST

I always start my day with heavy breakfast e.g fried rice, noodles, roti canai with a cup of coffee. To me, breakfast is important since I need a lot of energy to start my day at work.

Breakfast helps me to remain full and energetic and with that, I can control my meal intake at lunch time.


WATCH WHAT I EAT

People normally tell you to count your calories if you want to lose weight. I don't count my calories cause I'm not good at that I'd just eat my food and throw the packaging away!

I wanted to lose weight so badly during confinement so I watch what I eat very seriously. No meat, no grease, no excessive sugar and salt, no preservative and most importantly, veges and fruits must be on the plate.

If you are serious in losing weight, start counting your calories and read the label on the food packaging. Or else, just follow this food pyramid guide:

REDUCE THE PORTION

This is literally the hardest part of all especially when I'm starving and the food is irresistible. "Makan bila lapar & berhenti sebelum kenyang" is like a torture to me.

But with perseverance, I did it.

I eat regularly with small portions. I always have snacks like almond, fruits, chips and biscuits in between meal times. By doing this, I'll eat less during meal times cause my stomach is literally full with all those snacks.

If you're still hungry after having meal and snacks, drink plain water.


FASTING

People say this is the easiest way to lose weight, yet the hardest thing to do except during the fasting month of Ramadhan when it's compulsory.

"A number of studies have suggested intermittent fasting has numerous health benefits, including weight loss, lower blood pressure and reduced cholesterol. When the body has used up glucose stores during fasting, it burns fat for energy, resulting in weight loss."

So this is my weight loss story. I don't have any exercise routine but it is better if you have it. I'm currently trying to lose 5 to 8 kg to get my ideal weight. Hope I won't give up hahahah.
